AI is rapidly moving toward more autonomous and more general capabilities. If artificial superintelligence emerges before it is safe and under control, it could pose an existential risk to humanity.
That risk is highlighted by the founders of the field, the UN, Nobel laureates, researchers, and even the very labs developing AI. Even the most eminent experts estimate that the risk of human extinction due to superintelligence is at least 10 %. And a risk of global catastrophe this high is utterly unacceptable.
Although many warn against the emergence of superintelligence, AI development is racing toward immensely capable systems. Everyone is caught in a relentless technological and geopolitical race that no one can step out of unilaterally. Only an enforceable international agreement that halts this race to the bottom can help.
We must act before it is too late.
More on the topic →Only an enforceable international agreement can prevent the unprecedented threat that artificial superintelligence poses to humanity. The USA, China, and other players must jointly prevent the emergence of advanced AI systems that would escape human control.
A global technology requires global rules.
Neither the Czech Republic nor Europe plays a key role in developing AI. Even so, they can contribute significantly to reaching an international agreement. That is exactly what we are working toward!
Faced with global threats, humanity has managed to unite before. We want to build on those successes.
